Day 1 was a long transport stage, leaving Goodwood and heading for the Channel Ferry before dashing north through France and into Belgium. We managed to score the peak hour traffic jam in Brussels before staggering into our hotel in time for dinner. And what a dinner!! Brilliant food, good company and the wine wasn’t bad either. Day 2 was a relaxed start before heading to the Spa circuit. We managed a few laps behind the pace car in showery conditions. Probably one of the slowest laps ever but hey we drove Spa.
We then had a tour with local guide Bart who filled us in on the local history of the circuit, escorted us through the administration building and how the place actually runs. As a special treat he took us on a tour of the old 14 km circuit. Insanely fast roads with building , trees and ditches on the side of the track. Cannot believe that the new shorter track was not introduced until 1979.
We then traveled into the town of Stavelot for a lunch of Belgian Mussels and a sticky beak at the museum celebrating the circuit.
I am about to head off to dinner give you a report soon, after we drive the Nurburgring tomorrow.
